Academic Turkish

The aim of our “Academic Turkish” program is to ensure that our young people and adults who are native Turkish speakers in the context of bilingualism in Belgium, improve their Turkish language skills so that they can use them in scientific activities and environments. In addition, foreigners who learn Turkish as a foreign language to upper levels also want to explore the functions of Turkish as a scientific language and aim to improve their knowledge of Turkish by using it in scientific fields. This program of our institute has been prepared in response to these needs in parallel with these demands from the field.

Academic language has its own characteristics. Academic language requires different language structures and vocabulary than those learned and used at home, in social environments and in general language courses. It is a fact that many of our young people who continue their higher education in Belgium are well-equipped in Flemish, French or English in the field they study. However, our young people say that they have difficulty in explaining and writing their field knowledge in Turkish. In addition, in recent years, there has been an increase in the number of people who want to continue various educational programs in Turkey after their undergraduate education in Belgium. At this stage, linguistic preparation is required for the use of Turkish in academic contexts.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, as an institute, we carried out two “Academic Turkish” programs consisting of 6 sessions and 4 sessions in cooperation with Yunus Emre Institute Brussels.
